Jane De Leon will not be taking flight as Darna anytime soon.
It is after ABS-CBN decided to postpone the film project indefinitely amid the C0’VID-19 pandemic.
The rights to the movie will remain with ABS-CBN, which thanked the cast, staff, and production crew for their hard work on the longstanding film project that has already suffered numerous delays.
Amid this, Jane De Leon has finally given her reaction towards it.
The actress took to Instagram to share the statement released by ABS-CBN on Friday, August 21. Jane also uploaded a photo together with the film director Jerrold Tarrog and the crew on the set of the movie. In the caption, she wrote,
“I’m deeply saddened by the postponement of the ‘Darna’ project. However, safety comes first as always. Thank you so much for the support and understanding. Let’s pray for everyone’s safety. God Bless!”
Jane was formally announced as the next actress who will take on the iconic role of Darna last year, in July.
However, prior to some previous reports, the sum of P140 million had reportedly been spent and P100 million more was needed to complete the project.
The film experienced delays due to various reasons. Director Erik Matti dropped out in 2018, while Liza Soberano backed out as the lead in April 2019 due to a finger injury.
Furthermore, an insider said pushing Jane de Leon as a leading star would be difficult due to the ABS-CBN shutdown.
According to sources, Darna was being offered as a TV-series. ABS-CBN was reported to have sent “feelers” to GMA-7 and TV5 if ever the two networks would be interested in buying the rights for the beloved Darna. However, it’s still unclear if there had been talks between ABS-CBN and its rival networks
