Freediving is not for the faint-hearted, but it doesn’t seem to be a biggie for Andi Eigenmann’s partner Philmar Alipayo.
Imagine diving underwater without a breathing apparatus, simply wearing swimming shorts, a pair of goggles, and a pair of flippers.
Filipino surfing champion Philmar Alipayo just did what seems to be an impossible task for normal people.
Looking calm and composed, Alipayo posted on Instagram Wednesday a series of black and white photos freediving at the Solitude Acacia Resort in Batangas that sparked a buzz on social media.
In the post, which has since gone viral, Philmar said he managed to dive 14 meters underwater without the aid of a breathing apparatus.
“Dove 14 meters under [y]esterday,” Alipayo wrote, gaining more than 20,000 likes as of this writing.
The Siargao-native surfer proved that he was born to be one with the waters after making history in 2017 by winning the 19th Siargao National Surfing Cup.
Alipayo, the partner of actress Andi Eigenmann, bested 185 surfers including former national and international champion Piso Alcala in a 25-minute man-on-man finals duel in 2-3 feet waves at the world-famous Cloud 9.
Freediving is a bit different from scuba diving in that divers rely solely on their ability to hold their breath for long periods of time.
Apart from being a professional surfing champion, he’s also taken up spearfishing during the lockdown. It really only made sense for him to try his hand at freediving.
The couple is enjoying Siargao’s fresh delicacies with daughters Ellie and Lilo.
They reunited only recently in Metro Manila where Andi and her daughters have been spending the past several months
Philmar is currently taking a vacation with Andi, her eldest child Ellie, and their daughter Lilo in Mabini, Batangas.
What can you say about Philmar’s amazing update?
